Room For It is made by Alan, an independent developer in Utah who builds small, free planning tools under the name Firebuilt Development.

What is this site for?

One question, asked before you buy or move something: will it fit? A bed in a bedroom, a pool table with room to play, a sofa through a doorway. Each planner draws your room to scale, lets you drag the thing into place, and tells you what is tight and what does not fit at all.

The planners are free to use and need no account. The numbers you type stay in your browser.

Where do the numbers come from?

Every clearance figure comes from a named standard or a stated trade rule. The sources page lists them and says which is which. The methodology page explains how the shapes are measured and where the answers stop being reliable.

Most clearances are conventions, not laws. So every planner shows its default and lets you change it.

What this site will not tell you

It measures floor space and doorways. It cannot see your walls, joists or stairs. Anything structural needs someone who has seen the actual job.

How do I report a mistake?
